PLAY BETTER GOLF
"Unfortunately, according to the USGA, over 40% of male golfers and 90% of female golfers have a 15 handicap or higher. It simply shouldn't be this way."
- Kevin Baldwin
Kevin and I spent many hours on the practice range working on the techniques he’d acquired from his time with Hank Haney in the 1980s. Kevin’s knowledge of the game and his ability to communicate make him the perfect teacher for those looking to meaningfully improve their game.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Most individuals begin their journey to play better golf with much enthusiasm. Unfortunately, most golf instruction lacks any semblance of a plan or structure and often leaves the golfer feeling frustrated by an unclear path toward meaningful improvement. This method of instruction is also seldom tied directly to the individual’s personal goals or capabilities which only exacerbates the discontent.
Kevin is a life-long learner. His entire teaching philosophy centers around prioritizing those elements of the game that are easiest to improve and most impactful to a golfer’s score in the shortest time possible. Kevin is passionate about the importance of the short game as a fundamental building block of a good golfer.
Kevin’s philosophy is backed up by facts. According to the PGA TOUR, the leading player in greens in regulation hits around 75%. That means the best golfer in the world still scrambles to score well and when they do, the best PGA TOUR players’ scrambling percentage is only 68%. When you now consider that according to surveys published by Golf.com and The Grit, the average 15 handicap golfer only hits a paltry 26% of greens in regulation and their scrambling ability when they do miss the green is below 20%, you begin to realize how important the short game is to shooting lower scores and enjoying the game more.
Kevin believes there are an infinite number of ways to swing a golf club. However, there is one most-efficient way for each player to swing a club and it is based on what they can physically do. To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened. Certified by the Titleist Performance Institute, Kevin utilizes the TPI evaluation methodology to assess the swing mechanics, biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health, and injury history of each client.

Executing a long pitch shot or short iron shot both represent a miniature full swing. If a student can't hit those shots consistently with proper technique, it seems ridiculous to me to expend all your time, effort and energy on full swings with longer, more difficult golf clubs.

FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS
I wish I could tell my students that I have a special elixir that will instantly correct their swing faults. Unfortunately, it simply doesn't exist. The correct technique is only acquired by developing a deep understanding of the swing mechanics and through proper practice.

TAUGHT BY THE BEST
Hank and Kevin began working together to revamp his long game. They focused on creating a more rounded backswing that facilitated a shallower angle of attack through the ball. The new swing concept was vastly different from Kevin’s previous technique. Kevin found it excruciatingly difficult to make such a dramatic change and it took hours of repetition and practice to ingrain the new approach. Within six months of working with Hank, Kevin felt confident his swing would hold up during the pressure of collegiate competition.
TURNING KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE INTO WINNING
Kevin was chosen OCU’s Player of the Year his senior season of 1985-86. He was inducted into OCU’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
His induction into OCU's Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 served as a capstone to a phenomenal collegiate golf career and recognition of his many contributions to the legacy of success in OCU Athletics.
